Installing a Dell Memory Upgrade
Installing a Dell memory upgrade is pretty straightforward. You will need to remover the outer casing of the computer – you may need a screwdriver for this, depending on the make and model of your Dell computer. You should also wear an antistatic wrist strap to prevent damage to any of the computer’s sensitive components. These are quite cheap and can be bought from any hardware or electronic store.
When you have removed the computer cover, you need to find the right slot for your Dell memory upgrade. Slots for extra memory can be found in the motherboard of the computer.
This is a large circuit board which contains some of the most important parts of the machine. The motherboard will have two or more memory slots on it. One of these slots will already be taken up with the computer’s original memory module – this may help you to locate the slots. You should place the new memory in the adjacent slot.
Ensure the memory module is correctly aligned with the memory slot - it is notched so that it can only fit one way. Check that the locking clips at either end of the slot are pushed outwards in the unlocked position. Then place the memory module into the slot so that both ends fit into the locking clips. Then gently push the memory into the slot. The locking clips should move up to hold the card securely in place. Your memory should then be installed correctly.
